Thipkyanchi Rangoli – Episode 180 – Written Update and Episode Review

Why do you need me to match my outfit with yours,
When you have already painted my entirety in your colors! – IAdoreYouCreates

W H A T   H A P P E N E D   I N   T H E   E P I S O D E ?

The episode begins with Apurva returning home with a bunch of shopping bags in her hands and Shashank catching her right at the door.

Shashank – Hey, what is this stuff? What have you brought? You went to bring Babi Aatya’s jewelry, no? Then what’s with this amount of shopping?

Apurva yells – it’s a secret.

Shashank – Lower your pitch and tell me something, why weren’t you picking up my call?

Apurva’s unsaid response gets cut off as everyone calls her inside. She hands him over the bags – listen, Khadoos, keep these bags in our room.

Shashank shakes his head wondering what to do with this girl.

Inside the Kanitkar House, Manasi teaches Apurva how to apply the Haldi to Babi Aatya.

Suva Aai – Wow, Manasi. You have become an expert in these things now. Did you get it, Apurva? Will you be able to do it?

Apurva – YES. Should I start?

She starts applying Haldi with the leaf but keeps it aside right at the next moment. When everyone asks her what happened, she reveals that – this is not how it should be done. If we were supposed to put only a small amount of Haldi on her, why did we prepare a bowl full of Haldi? I’ll tell you how Haldi should be applied.

She dips her hands in the bowl, making everyone laugh with the amount of Haldi she takes. Babi Aatya holds her hands just when she is about to press them on her cheeks.

Suva Aai asks Babi Aatya to let Apurva do what she wants to do. Everyone enjoys as Apurva applies Haldi to Babi Aatya in her own way.

Once they are done, Bhaskar calls Babi Aatya. As he asks how the function is going at her place, she shares how everyone is dancing and having fun. He responds by saying that it is what he likes the most about her family – how they are always together and finding ways to enjoy no matter what the situation is

Babi Aatya asks if he has talked to Ovi to which he responds by saying that he has convinced Ovi and now she is so happy that she is even ready to dance at the wedding. Babi Aatya is relieved to hear that Ovi is comfortable with their wedding. Bhaskar asks Babi Aatya if she is okay with shifting to the US to which she readily nods, adding that Dada-Kaka has made her understand things really well and that she is okay with whatever he decides.

She doesn’t shy away from mentioning that it will be hard for her to leave her family but she will adjust. He tells her that he really admires her and is proud of her, adding that nothing is fixed yet though. He is trying to see if they can settle in India. Babi Aatya reminds him to have Deepali’s opinion and willingness in everything that he will decide, saying that they have to always think about Deepali since she has taken care of him for so many years. Bhaskar assures Babi Aatya that Deepali is happy.

After he disconnects the call, Kanitkars dance and enjoy the Haldi function.

The next day when Sumi and Manasi are helping Babi Aatya get ready for the wedding, Babi Aatya gets emotional as she confesses that she feels awkward dressing up that way at her age. Sumi and Manasi continue to remind Babi Aatya not to bring the age thing in their enjoyment as Sumi maturely tells her that there is no age for having fun and celebrations.

Later when Kukki, Amey, and Nikhil come to see Babi Aatya, Nikhil starts teasing Babi Aatya, asking if she went to meet Bhaskar the previous night the way he had secretly taken Sumi out before their wedding. Babi Aatya laughs as she shares that she went on no date but Bhaskar did call her, revealing their conversation revolving around Ovi and shifting to the US.

While everyone heaves a sigh of relief after knowing that Ovi is okay with the wedding, Babi Aatya gets emotional while sharing how she has never let anyone from their family move to even another city but now situations are demanding her to settle in a different country altogether.

Apurva dashes into the room, changing everyone’s mood within seconds with her happy spirit. She tells Babi Aatya that they will make video calls to her every hour and will not let her miss anyone.

Kukki asks what took her so long.

Apurva – We all have gotten ready but not Khadoos. I just kept his outfit in the room and came right here.

Babi Aatya and the Kukki gang stand in shock as Apurva starts showing the jewelry that she has brought for Babi Aatya.

Amey – Dada-Kaka asked you to bring one piece of jewelry. Did you ask Dr. Kaushik to buy the whole store or what?

Apurva – But what is the problem? Babi Aatya is Dad’s sister and he must do this for his sister. This is his responsibility.

Babi Aatya who tries to intervene has to stay quiet when Apurva refuses to listen. She makes Babi Aatya wear the jewelry.

Apurva – You are looking so pretty that even this jewelry looks so dull in front of you.

Babi Aatya – Forget about me. I am just overwhelmed with how much you are doing for my wedding?

Amey – Correct. Appu, you are the nicest girl in the world.

Kukki – Absolutely. You are so young compared to all of us but whenever your family gets stuck in any trouble, you act so maturely that you will put even us adults to shame. I really don’t know how to return your favors.

Apurva – You guys started again! Let’s do this Thanksgiving session later. Let’s go to bring Bhaskar Kaka now.

The Kukki gang sends Apurva to check if Shashank has gotten ready or not.

The scene shifts to Shashank who seems visibly ready.

Apurva walks up to him with the outfit that she has brought for him and hands it over to him – Khadoos, look at this. I brought you a special outfit for today.

Shashank moves away, saying – I am already wearing my outfit. Is it bad?

Apurva follows him – nothing of that sort but we have a theme for the day. Every couple is wearing color-coordinated outfits today.

Shashank – This is utterly childish, Apurva! Utterly childish!

Apurva – But the others are wearing it.

Shashank – I can talk about myself. I don’t know about others and moreover, who do you mean by the others? Your Kukki gang?

Apurva – Khadoos, listen. Listen… you are not going to wear these clothes that I have brought?

Shashank – No. I don’t like it.

Apurva – You’re never going to wear them?

Shashank – I ain’t saying that I will never wear them. Your father has so lovingly brought them so I will wear them but not today. I will wear them only when your outfit won’t be of the same color.

Apurva – What the heck? We will be the only couple who hasn’t matched the outfits.

Shashank – Good. I anyway don’t like the circus.

Apurva – So you are saying that everyone else works at a circus, hmm? Nikhil Dada – Sumi, Amey Dada – Manasi Vahini, Kukki – Panna Kaku… all of them work at a circus and who do you think you are? Some great king?

Shashank – Do not talk to me that way, Apurva. I don’t like it.

Apurva – Then wear these clothes that I have brought, no?

Shashank – No. I don’t do what I don’t like and I don’t like anyone forcing me for the same either. Is that clear?

Apurva grips his wrist just when he is about to move away and brings him back to his place – look, you WILL HAVE to wear what I have brought for you. Is that clear?

Shashank – Forget it. Why am I even arguing with you? Dada-Kaka has given me a lot of work and I am comfortable in these clothes for that work, Apurva, so I won’t wear your clothes.

Apurva – Khadoos, I am not letting you go out in these clothes. Unless you wear what I have brought for you, I am not going to let you open the door.

The Kukki gang arrives near their room and Kukki knocks on the door.

Shashank – Who is it?

Kukki – Appu’s father-in-law! Appu, come out. We have to go.

Apurva – I am not going to open the door, Kukki. Unless this Khadoos wears the clothes that I have brought for him, I am not going to open this door.

An annoyed Shashank tries to leave – listen, Apurva. This is not the time to fight. I have a lot of work. Let me go.

Apurva – You know what’s your problem, Khadoos? Your problem is that I am asking you to do this. You just don’t want to listen to me. If Netra Tai would have asked you to do this instead of me – you would have readily listened to her. You would have matched your outfit with hers.

Shashank – Why on the earth will I match my outfit with hers?

Apurva – Because even if I am your wife… you like HER. You would have matched your outfit with hers.

Shashank – That’s just not true, Apurva.

Apurva – That is. Listen to me very carefully. If whatever that I said just now turned out to be true… then I will really believe that you don’t consider me as your wife.

Shashank – How is it relevant? Is it a rule that a husband-wife should wear matching clothes?

Apurva – it‘s a trend. We have decided on a theme.

Shashank – This trend… theme… Everything is nonsense. I just don’t like these things.

Apurva – Khadoos, are you going to wear these clothes that I have brought or not?

Shashank takes the clothes from her and places them on the table beside them – no, I won’t. I won’t do anything that I don’t believe in. Tomorrow you will say – put on make-up, wear earrings, do a tattoo, get an eyebrow threading done – should I listen to all of that?

Shashank’s words leave the Kukki gang standing outside the door in splits.

Apurva – Yes, that sounds like a good idea. I will make you do all of that.

Shashank – Enough of your childish antics, Apurva. I have a lot of work to do.

Apurva – Just say that you will wear these clothes and the discussion will end right there.

Shashank – Honestly. I don’t want to look like a cartoon.

Apurva – What do you mean? Everyone else is a cartoon?

The Kukki gang looks at themselves, wondering if they really are cartoons.

Shashank – You know what’s the thing in this house lately? Apurva bole taisi Kukki gang dole! What you say is what they follow. Everyone knows what you are capable of doing if things don’t go how you want them to go. Why they listen to you but I am not one of them. I will not do what I don’t want to do. Your childish antics have no limit. You came up with this theme and matching clothes in Babi Aatya’s wedding? And everyone is following? Nobody has ever done this in this house before. Start paying more attention to your studies than all of these things. That’s in your best interest. Are you getting me?

Apurva’s face falls as she nods – I am getting everything. I am not as educated as Netra Tai, no? That is why you don’t listen to me. That is why nothing that I say ever resonates with you. That is why you are not wearing these clothes that I brought for you.

Shashank tries to convince her that it is not how it is – that’s absolutely not true, Apurva.

Apurva – That is the only truth.

Kukki knocks on the door and Apurva opens the door

Kukki to Shashank – What are you wearing? The clothes that Appu brought –

Shashank – I am not wearing them.

Manasi – Wear what Appu has brought for you, no?

Apurva – He will not wear what I have brought. He is not going to wear whatIhavebrought. I have been asking him for the same for the past several minutes but he is fighting with me instead.

Shashank moves away and sits down – I am fighting? The pot is calling the kettle black.

Apurva – How is it even relevant here?

She turns to the Kukki gang – he also feels that he is going to look like a cartoon in these clothes. In fact, he called all of us cartoons.

The Kukki gang darts disappointed glares at Shashank after hearing Apurva.

Shashank tries to explain to them that Apurva is misquoting his words.

Kukki tells Shashank that Dr. Kaushik has specially sent the clothes and he will feel bad if they didn’t wear them.

Shashank – I am not saying that I will never wear them. I will… someday.

Apurva – Why not today?

Shashank – I will wear them when you won’t be wearing the same color. This theme and this matching thing…. It doesn’t make sense to me. I don’t like it.

M Y   T A K E

Mr. Kanitkar growing restless when Mrs. Kanitkar is not around – is becoming so consistently endearing. He was legit standing at the door, waiting for her. The very same way he was waiting on the road for her that day when she had gone to Dr. Kaushik’s house.

Mr. Kanitkar can no longer seem to function without his wife’s antics that he verbally refuses to admit that he likes but he silently seems to crave the same.

We’re getting you, Mr. Kanitkar. Your temperature is high. Fever it is. The love fever I mean!

The way Apurva just dropped her shopping bags in Shashank’s hands before she rushed inside – who will believe that these two didn’t have a love marriage?

Look at the comfort level they share!
Look at the rights they have silently gifted each other!
Just look at them being who they become with each other!

A deal marriage? Definitely no longer seems like one.

The Haldi was fun. I enjoyed watching. Apurva being Apurva and everyone letting her be the crazy one that she is – it is always a feel-good scene for me.

Everyone always generously acknowledging Apurva’s small but significant contribution –  always gets me. Kanitkars – never once – have left Apurva wondering where she stands in their family. They never have and I would like to believe that they never will!

Coming back to Mr. Kanitkar refusing to match his outfit with Mrs. Kanitkar – just made me wonder if Mr. Kanitkar is using the defense mechanism to stubbornly press on the brakes of the love vehicle that his heart is driving at full speed toward her.

Also, Mr. Kanitkar – if matching outfits with your wife seems childish to you, what about you tricking her into believing in that lame ghost story of yours? That didn’t seem childish to you but giving in to your wife’s demand so simple as just matching your outfit with her feels childish to you, eh?

Mr. Kanitkar’s face was worth watching when she brought Netra in the conversation.

At the wedding, Mr. Kanitkar’s face will be even more worth watching when the hidden psychic powers of Netra will get their outfits to match for real.

Think of a good explanation regarding that in advance, Mr. Kanitkar and practice it really well because you are so going to need it.

May your Mathematician Ghost come to your rescue when the volcano of your wife’s anger will stand in front of you to swallow you alive!

Good luck, Mr. Kanitkar!
Good luck!
