Thipkyanchi Rangoli – Episode 184 – Written Update and Episode Review

It’s not easy to abandon your own happiness,

W H A T   H A P P E N E D   I N   T H E   E P I S O D E ?

The episode begins with Shashank and Apurva standing together. 

Shashank – It’s Babi Aatya’s wedding. Come, let’s enjoy. You must be anticipated to dance like always, no?

His words earn him a glare from her, making him quickly add – no, it’s a good thing. Come. 

The duo dances to a romantic song sung by Shashank along with Sumi-Nikhil and Amey-Manasi. The beautiful moments get witnessed by everyone. Netra fumes in jealousy upon watching Shashank and Apurva’s closeness. Even after the dance ends, Apurva and Shashank stand, lost in each other’s eyes until nudged by others. 

Bhaskar and Babi Aatya’s wedding begins but the absence of the jewelry needed makes Bhaskar’s Maasi anxious.  Despite calling Nandu numerous times, he doesn’t receive their calls.

Kukki and Amey reach out to them and offer to go to Bhaskar’s house to bring the jewelry. Apurva shares a possibility – what if Nandu has fallen asleep there? – earning a stern warning from Shashank to stay quiet. 

Apurva insists that she would go with Kukki and Amey too to Bhaskar’s house but Shashank refuses to let her go – hold on. Where are you going? Stay here. Don’t disappear the way you had disappeared on Haldi. Don’t do anything of that sort. You… STAY HERE.

Kukki – Shashank is right. You stay here. Shashank wants Appu in front of his eyes. Always. That is why! 

Bhaskar inquires about Nandu to his Maasi to which she responds by saying that he is clumsy and she should have sent someone else instead of him. Bhaskar gestures for her to calm down, saying that Nandu will come soon.

On the other hand, Shashank and Apurva argue as Shashank refuses to let her go to Bhaskar’s house with the Kukki gang.

Apurva – But – 

Shashank – What? But what? Is it a rule that the Kukki gang has to go everywhere together?

Apurva pushes Shashank aside to go and stand with Amey and Kukki – look, Khadoos… this is THE KUKKI GANG. We go everywhere together. Either we all are going or nobody is going.

When Ovi rushes to Bhaskar, the latter asks her where she was, reminding her that her mother had told her to stay with him.

Ovi tells him that she has been looking for Nandu as he was going to go home.

Prachi walks up to Ovi, telling her that it has been quite long for Nandu to have gone and he must be about to return. She asks Ovi if she is hungry and wants to eat.

Ovi refuses and tells Bhaskar that she wants to go home. To her mother. Bhaskar assures her that they will go back home really soon as there are only a few rituals left, adding that they have to take Babi Aatya home too. 

While Ovi nods, Shashank gestures to Maai and Suva Aai who get annoyed by watching their argument.  

Shashank goes to them and asks them to tell Apurva not to go anywhere.

Maai and Suva Aai – What’s the thing with you two?

Shashank – Tell her something first. Is it necessary for her to go with the Kukki gang every single time?

While Maai calls Apurva and asks her not to go outside now as there are guests over there, Suva Aai tells them to stop fighting. 

The scene shifts to Dr. Anjali who asks Dr. Kaushik to come with her as she wants to talk to him. Dr. Kaushik who is talking to Vitthu Baba tells her that he is talking to Vitthu Baba. Dr. Anjali warns him to step aside or else she will say it in front of Vitthu Baba. Knowing what his wife is capable of saying, Dr. Kaushik chooses to go with her. 

She asks him how long the rituals are going to take, adding that she is bored. She proposes that they should leave now. He tells her that there is still quite a lot of time as Saptapadi and meals are left. She sternly refuses to eat at their place, reasoning that it’s too oily for her to eat. Dr. Kaushik insists that they will have to stay. He goes back to Vitthu Baba but before they can resume their conversation, he gets a call that informs him about an emergency at his hospital.

He informs Vitthu Baba that there is a critical case. Vitthu Baba says that the work comes first. Dr. Kaushik leaves but not without informing him that he will be back after attending to the patient. 

Dr. Anjali grins at the perfect opportunity and asks him to drop her home. He tells her to stay but she refuses and they leave.

The Pandit asks Bhaskar to make Babi Aatya wear the Mangalsutra. Watching the scenario, Netra weaves the dream of marrying Shashank at the same place, blushing by the mere thought of him tying the Mangalsutra around her neck.

Just when Bhaskar is about to make Babi Aatya wear the Mangalsutra, Nandu reaches there, visibly distressed and panting.

The only word that he can manage to speak is – Deepali Tai.

When Bhaskar asks him what about Deepali, Nandu says that something has happened to Deepali. Bhaskar tells him to stop with the riddles and be clear in his words. Nandu ends up telling everyone that he found Deepali unconscious on her bed. He adds that he tried to wake her up but she is just not opening her eyes.

The news makes the Mangalsutra slip from Bhaskar’s hold.

Ovi shakes Bhaskar, asking him what has happened to her mother. Bhaskar tries to comfort her saying that it must be just exertion but Ovi accuses him of having done something to her mother, shocking everyone around. 

He holds her back when she is about to leave, telling her that they will go together.

When Vitthu Baba asks him how he can go without completing the wedding, he tells them that he has no idea what condition Deepali is in and in such circumstances, he cannot sit and complete the wedding.

Kukki assures Bhaskar that he will take Dr. Kaushik to his home and if at all there is something serious, they will get her hospitalized at Dr. Kaushik’s hospital. Vitthu Baba supports Kukki, saying that everyone will take care of Deepali. He asks him to tie the Mangalsutra around Babi Aatya’s neck, complete the rituals and then go. 

Bhaskar counters them back saying – but what if Deepali doesn’t have that amount of time? But what if I can’t reach on time? I won’t be able to meet my daughter’s eyes for life. I am sorry… but I have to go.

Dada-Kaka joins the conversation, assuring Bhaskar that they all will take care of Deepali, asking him to finish the rituals and then go. 

The two women at the venue start gossiping where one asks why Deepali must have taken such a step and the other shares how Deepali and Bhaskar have been staying together for a long time and now Bhaskar has left her alone. The former says that there must be something between the duo or else there is no reason why Deepali attempted suicide. 

Dada-Kaka continues to request Bhaskar to stay back, asking him to think about Babi Aatya who has waited for this day for years. He asks Bhaskar not to crush her dreams, assuring him once again that they will take care of Deepali, trying to convince him to complete the wedding.

Bhaskar is about to say something to Babi Aatya but Ovi pulls his hand, asking him to take her home, to her mother.

Ovi’s terrified face alarms Babi Aatya and she asks everyone to let Bhaskar go, firmly telling them that Bhaskar’s duty as a doctor comes first and everything else later.

Suva Aai interrupts, not supporting Babi Aatya’s decision. She asks Bhaskar to complete the wedding. Bhaskar apologizes to everyone, joining his palms as he confesses that he won’t be able to be so stone-hearted if it’s Deepali in question and leaves with Ovi.

While Kukki, Amey, Nikhil and Shashank follow them, Maai and Dada-Kaka hold Babi Aatya.

Everyone stands heartbroken at the turn of events. Maai asks Babi Aatya why she let Bhaskar go without completing the wedding, adding a question – what if he does not return?

Babi Aatya responds by saying that her wedding is not more important than anyone’s life. It is not their morals.

Kadhi Tu… Rimjhim Jharnari Barsaat.
Kadhi Tu… Cham Cham Karnari Chandnyat. 

I have been in love with Kadhi Tu for what seems like ages now. I remember getting excited whenever I would spot it on the Television. I didn’t have a phone back then so the liberty of watching anything and everything whenever and wherever wasn’t in existence and still, I believe that time was so beautiful. The sweet wait making me linger around, hoping that I would get to watch the song for yet another time, was beautiful.  

I would sincerely, gladly and wholeheartedly recommend Kadhi Tu to the Non-Marathi folks around. It’s visually stunning, soothingly comforting and an absolute beauty. Even the movie that it is from Mumbai Pune Mumbai still stays one of those movies that no matter how many times I watch – it makes me watch with the same enthusiasm that I watched it the first time. 

Needless to say, I loved the whole dance sequence. It was dreamy, beautiful and just as perfect as it could have been. The choreography seemed so natural, easy and yet captivating. My favorite part was Bhijleylya Vaata. It just got me.

The whole dance sequence was aesthetic to say the least. The choice of Kadhi Tu just took it to a whole different level altogether. Made it unforgettable. 

Mr. and Mrs. Kanitkar though! They were so in the moment. So in the moment. 

Lost in each other’s eyes as if under the universe’s magical spells,
Too busy adoring each other to look at anyone else!

And that’s where our happy part ends and the serious one begins. 

Bhaskar – The man left his wedding when he was informed that Deepali is unconscious on her bed. The man left the woman he has yearned for all these years. Everyone urged rather requested him not to leave without completing the wedding but Bhaskar did not stop.  He apologized and left with Ovi. 

Does Bhaskar not love Babi Aatya enough?
Is Deepali more important to him than Babi Aatya?
Could he not wait for a couple of minutes, finish the rituals and then go? 

Bhaskar loves Babi Aatya to bits. Why he couldn’t and didn’t look at any other woman in the past several years! He chose to stay alone when he did not get to share his life with Babi Aatya. He kept the place of his companion empty and lovingly placed Babi Aatya’s memories there instead of giving that space to another woman. That is the answer to the first question. 

Deepali has her own place in Bhaskar’s life and Babi Aatya has her own. There is no comparison.  This particular moment was not a moment of comparison. In fact, comparison is between similar things. This was more like the moment of priority. He prioritized Deepali’s life over his wedding with Babi Aatya. That is the answer to the second question. 

Probably, a doctor is one of those people who understands the importance of even microseconds. They acknowledge that even the delay of a second and they can lose a life forever. Bhaskar had no idea what the actual matter was, why Deepali was unconscious and just what has happened. It could be anything. A stroke. A heart attack. Anything. I don’t think he was capable of even coming up with the possibility of suicide at that moment so these are the other possibilities that he could have considered.  Not just as Deepali’s friend but also as a doctor, he knew what he had to choose and he chose it. 

Kanitkars – These people continued to request Bhaskar, one by one, not to leave Babi Aatya at the mandap, to complete the wedding rituals. 

Are Kanitkars insensitive people who tried to stop. Bhaskar even after hearing about Deepali’s condition?
Do Kanitkars lack humanity so much that they kept pestering Bhaskar even after knowing that Deepali could need immediate attention and medical intervention? 

Kanitkar weren’t trying to hold back Bhaskar. Kanitkars were trying to hold back Babi Aatya’s happiness that they could see slipping from Babi Aatya’s hands. Kanitkars desperately tried to stop Bhaskar from abandoning Babi Aatya because they knew what all Babi Aatya has been through all these years without Bhaskar. She spent the several long years in resentment, dealing with the unbearable hurt of betrayal that she believed that the person she loved with all that she has got gifted her and now that the misunderstandings were gone and happiness had knocked on her door after so many years – how could Kanitkars watch anyone slam that door shut on Babi Aatya’s face again? They couldn’t and they didn’t. Why they did everything that they could to hold Bhaskar back but all in vain. That is the answer to the first question. 

Kanitkars are probably those people who will rush to a needy person’s help, leaving aside of their works. Dada-Kaka – despite being in the desperate need of money for Babi Aatya’s wedding – left those five lacs at his friend’s house, seeing his financial struggles. Deepali said a lot of unpleasant things to Kanitkars and despite considering the possibility that she wasn’t really joking – nobody from Kanitkars held it against her. Doesn’t mean that Kanitkars are saints but they are definitely of the kind to help anyone and everyone, forgive and forget. 

Perhaps, the only reason why Kanitkars reacted the way they did is Babi Aatya. The mere thought of something robbing her of her happiness left them too desperate and vulnerable to think about anyone else but Babi Aatya at that moment. They still did think about Deepali. They were very willing to rush to her and take her to the hospital – with or without Bhaskar completing the wedding rituals – but their hearts had to beg as much as they could for Babi Aatya’s happiness. 

Babi Aatya – The woman who is sorted like no other! Her heart almost sank when she watched the Mangalsutra slip from Bhaskar’s hand to the ground and it took her a while to let the whole situation sink in. For a long time, she struggle to accept and react but the moment Ovi’s distraught and terrified little self came in front of her was the moment when she knew that she will have to speak up. She must. Ovi’s sight alarmed her and she let Bhaskar go. She let Bhaskar go because she believed that someone’s life was more important than her wedding. 

The silent contentment on Bhaskar’s face when Babi Aatya asked everyone to let him go said everything even without him needing to utter a word. Most likely, he knew that she was going to say what she did and when she actually confirmed it – his heart had to be like – yeah, that’s my woman! 

A bit heavy episode but definitely worth watching with everyone’s priorities and helplessness that make them do the things that they are not willing to but they have to.
