“Pata nahi,” she murmured, clutching the comforter closer to her.
“Don’t tell me that now I need to sing a lullaby to make you sleep!” He let out a small laugh, shaking his head at her.
“Aisi expectations to maine kabhi Maasi se bhi nahi rakhi to aapse kyun rakhungi?”
His laughter died the moment his mind registered the poignant misery in her confession. He instantly sat up. “Ishqi… I am sorry! Mera wo matlab nahi tha.”
“Pata hai!”
“Fir bhi! I am really sorry.”
A faint smile graced her lips as she lifted herself to rest her head on his chest.
He pressed his lips against her palm before wounding his hand around her. “Tum kabhi kuch kehti nahi ho lekin main jaanta hoon tum apni Mom ko bohot miss karti ho! Abhi bhi… unhi ki yaad aa rahi hai na?”
She snuggled closer, letting her silence dominate the conversation.
“It’s okay… main hoon na!” He stroked her hair, pampering his otherwise bubbly but currently low wife.
“Sing the song!”
His perplexed gaze stared at her. “What?”
“Aapne bola na… main hoon na? Mujhe ye gaana pasand hai! I’m sure I’ll feel a lot better if you sing!”
He scratched the back of his head. “Ye gaana hai?’
“AVMMM… this is one of my favorites! Aap bhul kaise sakte hai?” Feigning anger, she tried to pull away but he didn’t let her move.
“Sorry. Sorry. I’m really sorry! Tum na… mujhe 10 minutes do. Just 10 minutes. Main abhi lyrics dekhta hoon aur yaad karta hoon, okay?”
Her astonished self caught him hurriedly reaching out for his phone. She immediately placed her hand on his arm. “Are. Are. Ek second.” She facepalmed at the sheer innocence of her husband. “Main mazak kar rahi thi, AVM! Aap meri har baat ko kya itna seriously le lete hai!”
“Tumhari har baat ko seriously lena hi to mera kaam hai!”
Her heart almost skipped a beat.
Was he really about to memorize a song that he had never heard just to make her feel better? Her head fell back on his chest with a quick tear rolling down her cheek.
“Ishqi, har wo cheez jo tumhe khushi de wo seekhna meri zaroorat nahi meri zidd hai!”
