“Agar tumhe lagta hai ke meri taraf na dekhne se mujhe kuch pata nahi chalega to let me tell you… tumhara chehra padhne ke liye mujhe use dekhne ki zaroorat nahi hai!” Pressing his elbow on the pillow, he tapped her shoulder.
“Tum kya logi sochna band karne ka?” He nudged her but sighed when she refused to break her silence. “Agar tum Rhea ki baaton ko itna dil pe le rahi ho to matlab main ye samajh loon ke tumhe mujhpar yaqeen nahi hai?”
“Mujhe apni kismat par yaqeen nahi hai, AVM.”
He heaved a silent sigh of relief when her voice graced his ears after several long hours.
“Apni kismat hum khud banate hai, Ishqi. Koi kismat tumhe mujhse nahi chheen sakti.”
“Aapko to cheen sakti hai mujhse…”
“Kaise cheenegi? Janzeeron mein bandh bhi de mujhe to bhi mujhe tumse dur nahi kar payegi!”
“Ye sab kehne ki baatein hai, AVM. Kismat ke aage kisi ka bas nahi chalta!”
“Tumhara chalta ho na ho mera chalta hai. Aur main chalaunga. Har uss insaan aur cheez pe apna bas chalaunga jiske vajah se meri wife itni upset hogi.”
“AVM!”
“Sun raha hoon, bolo…”
She turned to his side. Her hand reached out for his as she pulled it to herself as if assuring herself that she still had him.
“Rhea ki baat puri galat to nahi. Jo usne kaha wo namumkin to nahi. Kya bol rahi thi wo… haan, falling out of love… aajkal kitna common ho gaya hai na wo. Shaadi ke kuch saalon baad pyaar khatm ho jata hai. Humara bhi ho gaya to?”
He didn’t hold back his smile. It wasn’t often that he got to see his wife insecure and while he didn’t like it, it never got on his nerves. Comforting, assuring and reassuring her as many times as needed came naturally to him.
“Honestly, Ishqi, I don’t know and I don’t care what’s common for the people out there. Aur tum shaadi ki baat kar rahi ho? Agar humari shaadi nahi bhi hui hoti… even if you had not reciprocated my feelings… tab bhi… tab bhi, Ishqi, mera pyaar kabhi khatm nahi hota. Falling out of love to bhul hi jao yaha to har din mujhe tumse pyaar ho jata hai… fir se. Har din. Batao, kaise khatm ho sakta hai ye pyaar? Ho sakta hai kya?”
