“Puchu kya AVM se…”
“Kya puchna hai mujhse?”
His unexpected presence near her car when she was lost contemplating something startled her.
He bent to pick her bag up that fell on the ground. “Bolo, kya puchna hai mujhse?” He repeated the question, giving the bag in her hands.
“Puchna? Kya puchna? Kaisa puchna? Puchne ka kya hai. Puchne ko to koi kuch bhi puch sakta hai. Zaroori thodi hai jawaab dena-“
His hand touched her arm, bringing her blabbering to an abrupt halt. “Kya hua hai? Nervous ho?”
She looked at his hand on her arm for a long moment before quickly shifting aside. “Kuch bhi to nahi.”
Without uttering another word to convince her to speak up, he stood there, knowing that the matter would be in front of him within the next five minutes.
“Actually…”
He hid his smile when his predictable friend proved him right. “Mujhse baat karne se pehle kab se tumhe itna sochna padne laga?”
“Baat hai hi aisi, main kya karu,” she muttered under her breath before pulling out a bunch of photographs from her bag. “Dadi ki medicines nahi mil rahi thi. Hum sab dhoond rahe the. Mujhe aapke drawer me ye… meri pictures… wo bhi itni saari…” She couldn’t add more as she stared at those candid pictures of her.
“Kisi ke room se aise bina puche kuch le nahi jaate,” he said, taking the photographs back from her hand, “do wapas!”
“Ahaha, aap bina puche meri photos nikaal sakte hai, apni drawer me rakh sakte hai aur mai meri hi photos nahi le sakti? But this can wait. Pehle aap batayenge meri photos kyun hai aapke paas?”
“Har sawaal ka jawaab maanga nahi jata, Ishqi. Kuch sawaalo ke jawaab hume khud bhi dhoondne chahiye! Dhoondo!” He patted her back, encouraging her to go ahead.
“Maine dhoond liya to mujhe kya milega? she yelled from behind when he started walking inside his home.
“Tumhara to nahi pata lekin mujhe sab kuch mil jaayega!”
