The episode begins with Vitthu Baba seeking Suva Aai’s permission regarding taking a loan on his provident fund. He takes the opportunity to confess how she has always stood by him in his every decision but the provident fund is their investment for the future and he needs her to be okay with his decision for him to proceed,

Suva Aai assures him that she is with him in his decision like always. She adds that their kids – Shashank, Amey, and even Nikhil are their investments for the future. She acknowledges that Babi Aatya had wholeheartedly spent on Sumi’s wedding and now it’s their time and they should not think about money when it’s Babi Aatya’s wedding in question. She assures Vitthu Baba that he has her full support and that he should get his sister married as lavishly as he wants to.

The scene shifts to Kanitkars where Dada-Kaka inquires about Apurva and Kukki has to reveal that Apurva hasn’t come back yet. Maai asks him to call Dr. Kaushik once since she believes that Apurva will not go anywhere else without informing.

Vitthu Baba interrupts and reminds everyone as how when she had gone shopping for them in the past – she had made Dr. Kaushik hide from everyone that she was with him and later on it turned out that she was indeed with him – it could be the same case this time as well.

Kukki, however, denies the possibility. He says that Dr. Kaushik would have told him if Apurva was there without her knowledge but he didn’t say anything. Dada-Kaka interrupts and tells Kukki that Vitthu Baba is right – last time, Dr. Kaushik did hide Apurva being with them. Visibly upset, Dada-Kaka moves out. Maai signals Kukki to follow him.

Kukki and Aparna follow him and Kukki shares with Aparna that he senses that something is not right. Aparna confesses that Dada-Kaka had not gone for the land-related work but to bring back money from Avinash. She tells him that Maai believes that Avinash hasn’t returned the money.

A dejected Kukki cannot hide his vulnerability and expresses his grief that his brother is roaming out, stressed to arrange money to fulfill their family responsibilities and here, he keeps stealing breaks from work and enjoying with everyone. He urges Aparna to believe him that it doesn’t mean that he doesn’t acknowledge the gravity of the situation.

Aparna assures her anxious, unsure husband that he does not have to say anything to her. She knows it all. She comforts him, reminding him that she does know that he tries his best to keep the environment at home light, constantly trying to take off everyone’s worries.

She adds that no matter what Dada-Kaka says on his face, behind his back he only praises him, calling him Kanitkar’s vibrant energy source. She tells him that he has to bring Dada-Kaka out of his stress. She asks him to talk to Dada-Kaka and assure him that he doesn’t have to carry the financial burden alone. His siblings are always right there with him.

The scene shifts to Vartak’s residence where Dr. Kaushik asks Apurva to stop lying to Kanitkars. He voices out his clear displeasure with the plans that she makes and ends up involving him in it. He adds that Kaniktars are simple people and even God will not forgive him and Apurva for lying to them.

Apurva cuts him off, reminding him that lying for a good cause is okay. He argues that a lie is a lie, no matter what. She argues back that had she told Kanitkars that she was coming here, they wouldn’t have let her and she would not have been able to help them.

Dr. Kaushik shares his words of wisdom that a problem can and should be solved by transparent communication like how he is going to do tomorrow. She urges him to reveal what he is going to do. He shares that he is going to tell Dad-Kaka that a burden doesn’t feel heavy when carried by multiple people.

Apurva nods and adds her own interpretation of Dr. Kaushik’s words that if they put together all of their individual powers – they can even make a tunnel through the mountain. She adds that it is how every problem is tackled in Kanitkar’s home.

Dr. Kaushik agrees and says that it is precisely why no problem lasts for long in the Kanitkar’s home. Dr. Kaushik feels proud that his daughter has matured enough to make her contribution. He puts an end to the conversation and goes to drop her off. She asks him to drop her somewhere near her home, saying that she would go on her own from there.

The scene shifts to the restless Shashank, pacing back and forth on the road, waiting for Apurva. A drunkard bumps into her, causing the alcohol in his bottle to spill on her and also hurting her leg a bit.

Shashank catches her sight and rushes to her, confronting her about where she was. His frustration finds his voice as he reminds her that nobody in their family stays out till that late without any work.  She tries to get him inside the home but he refuses to move an inch until he gets his answers.

He says that he repeatedly called her but she didn’t revert to any of his calls. She says that she didn’t hear the ring. He taunts that of course, you must be busy creating a ruckus with your friends. Of course, you wouldn’t realize and care that your family is calling you.

Apurva goes – are you done? Are you going to listen to me or not?

Shashank doesn’t let her speak as his anger doesn’t let him keep his cool. He says – what are you even going to say? That you were getting bored sitting here and your friends – oh sorry – I mean your boyfriend called, he might have asked you to come to a party and you went.

A baffled Apurva asks him if he is hearing himself. He adds – I have known you for long enough. Party and enjoyment – that is all that you have done so far in life and in your enjoyment – you don’t even remember your family. Even now, you must not be aware how worried your family is for you, no? Now even Dada-kaka has returned. What answer do you have to give to him?

Apurva sighs and tells him that she will see what she has to say to Dada-Kaka and makes her way to their home but stumbles on the way. Shashnk rushes to catch her but furiously pulls back himself upon smelling alcohol from her clothes.

An enraged Shashank confronts Apurva – are you drunk? Are you drunk? Oh, now you will say ‘I don’t drink. My friends forced me so I had to. Yeah?’ Dare not lie to me. Even if I don’t drink, I do recognize the smell of the alcohol. You have lost yourself under the influence of alcohol so much that you don’t even realize that you are smelling of alcohol.

Apurva recalls the man who had collided with her and thinks of it as a great opportunity to escape everyone’s questions.

Shashank’s rage does not see a break. He continues to confront her – speak up, Apurva. You acted goody-two-shoes in front of my family after our marriage. Now what? Your patience ended? You got bored and so went out to enjoy with your friends – oh sorry, I mean with your boyfriend, hmm?

Apurva kickstarts her plan and starts acting drunk. She laughs – correct. I did go with my frien – I mean, my boyfriend. We went to a pub. To enjoy. Are you done? Should I go inside? You are not going to come? Okay. She moves inside, stumbling and continuee to execute her plan, leaving behind Shashank in utter disbelief.

Shashank follows Apurva and reveals everything to Kanitkars. He says – aren’t you ashamed to admit that you went to a pub? Bringing her plan into full action, Apurva throws her bag somewhere in a corner, following Shashank’s words.

Maai asks where did she go? Suva Aai tries to interrupt but Shashank says – ask her or even better, do one thing, come closer. The smell of alcohol will tell you where she had gone – shocking everyone.

Suva Aai – Appu, are you drunk?

Shashank – Tell them the truth because if I say something, I seem wrong to all of you.

Manasi Vahini interrupts Shashank, saying that Apurva doesn’t drink.  She reminds them that when they had gone to Apurva’s party, she had refused to drink despite the persistent forcing by her friends. Nikhil supports her justification but stands unsure looking at the present scene at the front.

Nikhil – when we had gone for her bachelor’s party, Krish was forcing her to drink but she did not.

Apurva continues her charade – that day, I did not but today, I did. I went out with my friends. To a pub. And did drink a bit. For enjoyment. What’s the problem? Why do we have this life? To enjoy, no? We’ve got this life to enjoy.

When Kukki moves toward her to handle the situation, she pulls him along. Kukki, Kukki, you tell these people. Tell this Khadoos – he just keeps yelling at me.  I went out with my friends and consumed a little alcohol. What’s the big deal?

Shashank – little? You can’t even stand properly on your feet. What is your definition of little?

Apurva – Definition. I’ll tell you. Little. What is not a lot is little. I have just… one… two… three… I don’t remember.

Kukki tries to shush her but Dada-Kaka speaks up.

Visibly angry, he moves toward Apurva, saying –  Nobody from Kanitkars has ever come drinking alcohol. Didn’t you feel ashamed while doing so? Creating a ruckus is a whole different thing altogether. Didn’t you feel ashamed? I thought you came from a cultured home – your father is a cultured doctor – he must have taught you good values.

He points at Shashank, saying – despite this guy’s unwillingness, I forcefully got him married to you. He kept telling us that this marriage shouldn’t happen, it shouldn’t but I didn’t listen. What situation are we in? Babi’s marriage is fixed. Everyone is into arranging everything for that. Everyone has a financial burden and you… you went out to a pub with your friends and are coming back in this condition? Didn’t you feel any shame? To be brutally honest – I still just cannot believe that you… you can do something of this

sort but how do I ignore the reality that stands in front of me?

Our Kanitkar family has only one thing. Our dignity and every member of this family constantly puts in efforts to protect that. We were overlooking your small mistakes but this… this. You know what I feel today? For the first time in my life, I failed in identifying a person.

Dada-Kaka, with joined palms, apologizes to Shashank saying that for the first time, his decision has been such a terrible failure, that he got Shashank married to Apurva despite his unwillingness.

Looking at the tears in Dada-Kaka’s eyes, Shashank darts a glare at Apurva who doesn’t let the outburst make a crack into her sham. Dada-Kaka says that he will have to call Dr. Kaushik. It’s decision time!

Cognitive Dissonance!

Didn’t quite think that there would be an episode that would leave me in the middle of conflicting opinions. I am not very sure whom to understand and whom to blame. Somehow, this particular episode stirred up a lengthy discussion between me and my sister. She had a completely different take on the entire thing and I had a completely different one.

Apurva’s choice to lie and do the drunken charade to protect her sweet secret from getting revealed can be acceptable to some and unacceptable to some.

For me, I think I can let that pass because her intention matters to me but at the same time, I feel, she should have informed Kanitkars that she was going out. Instead of lying now, she could have said the same before leaving the home. Imagine staying out of home, uninformed and making everyone worry for you! Irresponsible behavior, hard to appreciate!

When I was talking about having conflicting opinions – it was about how the whole thing was taken to the extreme. I absolutely feel that Apurva deserved to be called out but the dialogues that entered the scene like I shouldn’t have gotten Shashank married to you did not resonate with me.

Earlier it was only Shashank who used to make Apurva feel every once in a while that he deserved better, how she is not right for him, and how her habits and personality need to be changed. Just how she is not enough – who and what she is. But hearing it from Dada-Kaka today put me off.

Nobody had put a gun on anyone’s head to get Shashank married to Apurva so making her feel as if they’ve done a favor on her is something that I don’t even know how to react to.

On the contrary – my sister feels that Dada-Kaka doesn’t feel unreasonable. I do agree with that to some extent when my sister points out that he must be feeling betrayed by Apurva to see that she had not been honest about her habits and lifestyle with them.

I argued back and this time, my point was – what if she had actually gotten herself drunk? Kanitkars refused to take help from her father who they call as a family but doesn’t seem to treat him like one. It upset her, taking her somewhere where she intentionally drank.

My sister countered, saying – that is even more problematic.  Just because you did not get a particular thing the way you wanted to have it – you get into addictions? Stand in Kanitkar’s place and tell me, will you accept someone from your family doing that?

I felt that but I still wasn’t convinced so – I cannot accept but I will not take it to the extreme and end the relationship provided it is not a regular occurrence.

My sister – Kanitkars were always shown to be the people, treasuring the particular set of values and rules they live by.

Made me remember Dada-Kaka’s reaction to Apurva’s dance.

I nodded but still couldn’t quite come to a conclusion. I am in two boats. Apurva doesn’t seem awfully wrong to me but so do not Kanitkars also, Apurva shouldn’t have done certain things and Dada-Kaka shouldn’t have said certain things is what I personally feel.

Putting an end to the serious part of the review, let me get back to the bits that I loved.

I loved Apurva and Dr. Kaushik’s conversation. Dr. Kaushik’s words of wisdom were actually good. I liked how he put together everything to try to make Apurva understand that lies can cause irreversible damage to relationships and for them to bloom, you need transparent communication.

Mr. Restless Kanitkar pacing back and forth on the road, waiting for his wife to bless his eyes with her sight got me. Remember what he had said while getting out of the home? That he was tired of the Apurva discussion, adding his annoyance at them taking her side. Despite being mentally exhausted, Mr. Kanitkar couldn’t quite find his solace anywhere. He chose to drive himself more insane as he stood there on the road until she returned.

Mr. Kanitkar concluding that Mrs. Kanitkar must have carelessly tripped somewhere like usual and rushing to her when she stumbled got me smiling. He was genuinely enraged but he noticed what he was supposed to notice. Good job, Mr. Kanitkar.

Overall – quite an interesting episode.
