“Chinmayi, I accept what I did was uncalled for but I am apologizing, ain’t I?”
“It amuses me to know that you think you can come to me with this sorry for spying on me and expect me to accept it and come running into your arms, Kshitij! At times, I can’t resist wondering how we have been together for over a year and you still don’t seem to understand me enough.”
Chinmayi slumped down on her beanbag, clasping her palms together, tearing her gaze from Kshitij who heaved an exasperated sigh at her words.
Kshitij pulled out his hands that he had shoved in his pockets. “You think I don’t understand you?”
Chinmayi shot him an indifferent glare. “You think you do?”
Kshitij knelt in front of her, forwarding his hand to her. Chinmayi stared at his hand that waited for its favorite companion. She adamantly kept her hand to herself, not letting him have what he was desiring.
“Chinmayi,” Kshitij’s voice softened as his hand rose to tuck a lock of her hair behind her ear, “spying is not the right word for what I was doing. After your ex-boyfriend pulled up that stunt of cornering you that night, I cannot not be concerned. I was just trying to make sure that you are okay!”
Chinmayi stayed quiet, intently listening to his every word. Though deep down, every bit of her knew why he did what he did, she hadn’t been able to get a grip on herself when she caught him secretly following her from her office to her home. Her outburst was beyond her ability to control.
“Why do you think that I cannot take care of myself?” Chinmayi asked, getting his hand down her cheek.
Kshitij raised a brow. “Who said that?”
Chinmayi folded her hands across her chest. “Your actions did.”
Kshitij laughed before he lifted his gaze at her. “Miss Chinmayi Sardesai, my actions say that I love you enough to get worried for you if I sense trouble your way. My actions say that I love you enough to get protective and ensure your safety if I see harm approaching you. My actions say that I… love you and care for you enough to be your shadow and eliminate your every enemy before he or she lays a finger on you!”
